I came on aboard as the devastating impacts of the COVID pandemic were being felt across the Western Hemisphere with Latin America facing its worst economic crisis in modern history.

PUBLIC PROGRAM
The Institute of the Americas announces merger of UC’s Gulf of California Marine Program into its Environment & Climate Change Program
The merger of University of California’s Gulf of California Marine Program (GCMP) will facilitate expanded collaboration between scientists, policymakers and key stakeholders in Mexico while helping to improve the interpretation of marine science research on emerging policy issues through improved science communications with the goal of disseminating lessons learned across the Americas.

Institute’s Hemisphere in Transition Webinar Series highlights emerging regional challenges and opportunities amidst COVID-19 pandemic
Over the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic brought forth socio-economic disruptions of historic proportions globally with countries across the Americas among the hardest hit.
At the same time, the year 2020 was a time of political changes with general or parliamentary elections in Peru, Guyana, Suriname, Bolivia, Chile,Venezuela and, in particular, the United States

Institute’s 30th anniversary La Jolla Energy Conference staged virtually
This past May marked the 30th anniversary of the Institute of Americas’ La Jolla Energy Conference.
We celebrated the occasion by hosting and organizing several programs throughout the month
