President’s corner – Enlace Q4-2021

Dec 14, 2021 | President’s Column

As 2021 comes to an end, the board and staff of the Institute of the Americas has much to celebrate and be grateful for.

Though the COVID-19 pandemic continues to present challenges our programming has continued albeit with adaptations to virtual and hybrid meeting formats.   This past year the Institute expanded its board, established our Advisory Council and also launched a new programmatic pillar focused on Environment & Climate Change.   To learn more about the work of the Institute in 2021, I encourage you to read our recently published annual report

To expand our outreach in key stakeholders and constituencies in Latin America, the Institute has also recently launched a Spanish language mirror to our website.

This past month also marked the 40th anniversary of the Institute of the Americas which was founded in November 1981 by U.S. Ambassador Theodore Gildred II.    We celebrated this milestone event in our organization’s history with a small, COVID safe luncheon on our plaza last month which featured a keynote address by Institute board member, Ambassador Thomas Shannon.  This was the first of several events that we plan to organize to honor the legacy of Ambassador Gildred and his vision to establish the Institute as an organization dedicated to expanded U.S. public and private sector engagement in the Americas.

Thank you for your on-going support of the Institute.

Happy Holidays!
