La Jolla Conference
Summary Report 2023
Over 32 years ago, the La Jolla Energy Conference was launched to convene policy and investment discussions focused on Latin America and the Caribbean. Since the Conference’s founding, hundreds of energy experts and thought leaders have convened in La Jolla for a highlevel, yet relaxed event atmosphere.
Much of this year’s agenda focused on the angles, players, and implications associated with the region’s evolving energy outlook. Decarbonization and Net Zero pathways, critical minerals, further deployment of renewables, electromobility and electrifying everything, hydrogen, alternative fuels, carbon capture and the role for natural gas were all part of the mosaic debated across the two-day conference. Senator Dodd’s keynote address described U.S. policy and the importance of partnership with the Americas, while other speakers explored geopolitical trends affecting the Western Hemisphere’s energy sector.
This report comprises short summaries, word clouds and audience polling that capture insights from the wide-ranging and high-level panels and discourse.
