Given the ongoing debate in Mexico surrounding the energy sector and interventions by the government, we prepared a fact-based analysis and report “Clean Energy Cost-Savings: A Study of Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE)” co-authored by Non-Resident Fellow Francisco Salazar and Francisco Barnés.
On October 14, we convened our first-ever hybrid event “Debating Energy Security & Climate Action” with Jessica Bedoya, Chief of Staff and Chief Strategy Officer at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and a hybrid panel featuring Jose Luis Manzano (Integra Capital), Decio Oddone (Enauta) and Carlos De Regules (Deloitte), as well as Jessica Bedoya.
We kicked off the third edition of our Baja California Energy Ambassadors workshop in October. The Energy Ambassadors program consists of a series of high-level presentations and breakout discussions for non-energy sector professionals in Baja California with the goal of deepening understanding of the relevance of global and local energy and sustainability issues. The workshop is a key piece of our energy literacy efforts.
Discussions and developments from the UK and the COP26 climate summit dominated global headlines at the end of October and early November. Our Non-Resident Fellow, Marta Jara, took the lead and the Energy & Sustainability program compiled a summary and highlights of the meeting in Glasgow, as well as reflections from our fellows and team.
November also counted the launch of our expert surveys and the final phase of our fellows’ year-long research project. The goal of the project is to assess the readiness of Latin American countries to capture employment that will be generated from the Energy Transition and pursuit of net-zero and clean energy targets. The results of the survey and our research will be compiled into a report and serve as the basis for our “Latin America Energy Transition Workforce Readiness Barometer, to be published in early 2022.
