Energy Panorama May 2022

Welcome to the May edition. We are just back from Argentina. It was wonderful to return to Buenos Aires and collaborate with the University of Buenos Aires’ Center for the Study of Energy Regulatory Activity (CEARE) on our Argentina Energy Roundtable. Check out our short summary, photo gallery and highlight video. A more detailed report will be ready in June.
This month’s feature is the formal launch of our Latin America Energy Transition Workforce Readiness project web site. The site contains our Latin America Energy Transition Workforce Readiness Barometer, a detailed report and Energy Transition Snapshots for the eight countries featured in our analysis.
The web site and corresponding elements is a culmination of several months of work by a large group of contributors. The project began as part of our Non-Resident Fellow Zoom meetings and discussions and evolved into an analysis of energy transition and workforce preparedness in the region that is reflected in the Barometer, report and Energy Transition Snapshots.
We also thank all the experts across the region who participated in the survey phase that provided essential data to further our assessment of eight countries workforce readiness for the energy transition. The results of the survey are at the core of our report and the inputs for our Barometer.
At the end of May, we signed an important MOU with the State Energy Commission of Baja California to implement a pilot project focused on efforts to eradicate energy poverty and support the government with their goal of universal electricity access in the state. The pilot project is derived from our work together with Colegio de la Frontera Norte (Colef) and ProNatura Noroeste over the last year and our assessment of the issues of energy access and energy poverty in Baja California. We are grateful to the Sempra Foundation for their support of this work.
Finally, our Vice President, Jeremy Martin, participated in a panel this month hosted by CEBRI and King’s College London. He also contributed commentary as part of the Latin America Energy Advisor Newsletter and responded to the question: Is Bolivia prepared for its transition to renewable energy?
For those heading to the Summit of the Americas, we hope to see you here in California!
