Why It’s Important for Latin America
China and Xi Jinping are faced with a challenging dilemma. The Chinese economy relies more on investments than on consumption. To stimulate growth, Xi Jinping may need to aggressively promote consumption. However, despite restricted access to information, the population is aware of increasing interest rates and unemployment rates, limiting consumption and saving salaries. These issues what they mean for Latin America and why they are relevant are at the center of this brief prepared by Thiago de Aragão, our China-Latin America Non-Resident Fellow.
