Welcome to the August edition of Energy Panorama.

In a new twist with our revised timing for the La Jolla Energy Conference on September 28-29, we have spent August preparing for the relaunch of the conference in person.

Be sure to mark your calendars to join us as we debate the future of energy in Latin America and the Caribbean.  Our short video provides a virtual refresher of the conference and our unique setting.

We cannot wait to welcome you back to La Jolla!

Our Non-Resident Fellow, Leonardo Beltran was also busy this month. He penned an essay for Americas Quarterly looking at the unfolding USMCA trade dispute Mexico: When Trade and Energy Policy Collide.” He was also featured in an interview with Business News Americas and shared his broader perspectives on energy transition across Latin America and the Caribbean.

California made news this month with a landmark state law aimed at banning sale of internal combustion engines by 2035. Our team authored a short policy brief analyzing the policy and implications for Latin America and the Caribbean. Leonardo Beltran co-authored a related paper examining North America’s potential to transform into an EV manufacturing powerhouse.

Jeremy Martin was quoted in the New York Times as part of their article assessing the outlook for the energy sector in Mexico and shared further insights as part of the “In Depth” show on KNX News in Los Angeles. Please also be sure to mark your calendars for October 18 and the next edition of “Geothermal across the Americas” webinar series in collaboration with the Geothermal Energy Advancement Association (GEAA): Part II: Geothermal – supplying sustainable low carbon energy in Latin America
