Governments need to ensure reliable and affordable electricity service for their citizens and foster economic growth while improving standards of living. At the same time, as they shift toward more diverse renewable energy sources, their electricity systems must adopt advanced, clean energy technologies, which can present new opportunities and challenges for governments as they incentivize investment, regulate the market, and operate a power grid with larger amounts of variable renewable energy.
